The National and Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches Cover Frightened Rabbit’s “My Backwards Walk”

CHVRCHES very own Lauren Mayberry recently joined The National for a cover of Frightened Rabbit’s “My Backwards Walk.” The National was in the midst of performing a headlining set at the Summer Nights at the Bandstand music festival in Glasgow, Scotland, where both CHVRCHES and the late band originated from. According to Consequence of Sound, Matt Berninger welcomed out Mayberry who then stood beside the band’s backing singers as they sang a heartbreaking cover of The Midnight Organ Fight cut as a tribute to late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. To add, it was raining throughout the performance which can be seen below.

Mayberry also sang “I Need My Girl” with the band, which they have performed a handful of times together. See the performance below.

Hutchinson sadly passed away last year after committing suicide. He was last seen when he left the Dakota Hotel in South Queensbury at 1 a.m. (U.K. time). and after a 2-day search, Edinburgh police reported they had discovered a body at Port Edgar near South Queensferry. Hutchinson was 36. Fellow band Mastersystem released the music video for their single “Old Team,” one of Scott’s favorite tracks from them. The band stated, “This was Scott’s favorite tune on the record and the spark that lit the paper that led to the whole Mastersystem album.”
