In celebration of his 50th Birthday today, label UMe has rereleased Elliot Smith’s classic album’s XO and Figure 8. The albums will include all the b-sides and assorted tracks that were released on the various singles, promos and international editions of the albums. XO‘s rerelease will include nine songs, featuring XO b-side releases “Waltz #2” and “Baby Britain:” the instrumental “Our Thing,” “How To Take A Fall,” “The Enemy Is You” and the full-band version of “Some Song (Alternate Version).” The album also included the Oscar-Nominated track “Miss Misery” featured in the film “Good Will Hunting” See the full tracklist below.
Following XO from 1989, Smith then released Figure 8 in 2000 via Dreamworks, also receiving critical acclaim. Rolling Stone noted the album was “full of modern chamber pop, mixing in keyboards, strings and studio flourishes on melodically simple, yet structurally complex songs.” They also placed the album on their list of the 100 greatest albums of the decade and it was included in the book “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.” Both albums are available now on all streaming platforms.
Since Smith’s passing in 2003, a tribute album was made for him in 2016, titled Say Yes! A Tribute To Elliot Smith including contributions from J Mascis, Sun Kil Moon, Yuck, and Waxahatchee.
