One of the greatest Fleetwood Mac songs, “The Chain” has now been re-introduced by The Highwomen the new supergroup with Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires. The track is featured in the motion picture soundtrack for “The Kitchen” set to release on Friday, August 9 and stars Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss. Their self-titled debut album is slated for release on September 6, 2019 via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records and will feature artists, Jason Isbell, Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, Tanya Tucker, Ray LaMontagne and more.
The song doesn’t stray too far from the original track although vocals by the talented female group certainly put a new spin on the song. “The Chain” was originally created by Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood) and recorded back in 1976 and released on their best-selling album Rumours. The Highwomen are currently on a roll, making their live concert debut last weekend at Newport Folk Festival. They also performed several songs with Dolly Parton at the festival as part of the all-female headline set curated by Carlile.
The Highwomen can be considered the modern, female version of country supergroup The Highwaymen, which featured Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. The Highwomen made their live debut on April 1, 2019 at Loretta Lynn’s 87th birthday concert held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Carlile says, “Anyone can be a Highwoman. It’s about banding together, abandoning as much ego as humanly possible, holding one another up and amplifying other women every chance we get. Shoulder to shoulder. One push, one love.”
The Highwomen recently performed songs, “Redesigning Women” and “Crowded Table” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” New merchandise is now available through exclusive pre-order bundles via The Highwomen’s official webstore. They will contribute $4.00 USD from each bundle sale to She Is The Music, a nonprofit organization committed to driving inclusivity and equality for women in music with the goal of transforming the industry’s landscape.
