David J Recruits Asia Argento and Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre In New Song “Migena And The Frozen Roses”

The new track, “Migena And The Frozen Roses” by David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) features The Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe on keys, synth, percussion and programming and spoken word by Italian actress Asia Argento. The track which was collectively written by three artists will be released on September 6, 2019.

The song starts out with an alluring and mysterious build as a guitar is set against Argento’s whispering vocals before David J breaks in with a poetic verse that sets the tone. The romantic track holds poetic verses and injects you into Turin, Italy which is known for its numerous churches, palaces, opera houses, piazzas and public squares which were built in the 16th and 18th centuries. His inspiration certainly develops as you are thrust into the Italian piazza and his lyrics provide a description about a man selling roses while an Italian woman holds them. “Three red, one yellow a rather sad bouquet. The latter speaks of jealousy sometimes friendship.”

David J describes the song as follows, “I wrote the words to this while on tour, on a flight from Turin to Berlin, on my way to stay with Brian Jonestown Massacre mastermind Anton Newcombe. Anton works very quickly and we kept on bouncing ideas off of each other. Taking it in rapid turns to add another layer to the track. I have to say that I was enormously impressed with Anton’s musical invention. Everything he came up with – keyboard parts, strings, percussion, etc. – worked right away.”

David approached Argento regarding the female vocals on the track. He says, “Asia had approached me several years ago with a request that we work together. “David, let’s make art!” Well, now was the time! We texted her and it turned out that she was sick with a cold and in bed in New York City. Still, the lady was game. I asked her to simply write something in Italian about a red rose and then a yellow rose and to record her voice on her phone and send it to us in Berlin. This she did.”

This is the second single from David J’s forthcoming album, Missive To An Angel From The Halls Of Infamy And Allure, following the release of The Auteur (Redux / The Starlet’s Cut) featuring actress, activist and writer Rose McGowan.  According to a statement, it is an intensely personal, self deprecating, confessional song cycle. The track, “Migena And The Frozen Roses” will be available across all digital platforms on September 6, 2019. A two-track version of the single, including David J’s rendition of “Read ‘Em ‘N Weep” (written by Ian Hunter), can be downloaded exclusively via Glass Modern Records’ Bandcamp. The full album releases on double vinyl, CD and digitally on October 18, 2019.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
