Music can have confrontational topics
Australian band Thy Art is Murder is back with their fifth full-length album titled Human Target, and this album is filled with promising heavy metal music. Vocalist CJ McMahon, guitarist Andy Marsh, guitarist Sean Delander, bassist Kevin Butler and new drummer Jesse Beahler have created an album which consists of crazy guitar riffs and solos provided by Marsh and Delander. Meanwhile Butler’s bass guitar can be heard as a low high pitched sound in the background on each track, Beahler’s drumming style is erratic and on beat because of the fast musical composition the rest of the band has to play and McMahon’s clear and cutting edge vocals contributes to the angry mayhem on the album thanks to how his vocals are capable of producing loud vocal tunes which consist of loud, erratic and grungy screaming. This album does provide the metal music fans want to hear and the music itself can cause them to dance thanks to how the band represents themselves and their music. Also, this album marks a new journey for the band and earlier this year their longtime drummer Lee Stanton left the band due to personal reasons and with Station being absent from the band, it gave Beahler the opportunity to show the music world what kind of a drummer he is, Overall, fans of Thy Art is Murder will not be disappointed with the album because the band does not lighten up on their music and perhaps they want fans to know they are back with a louder attitude and music-filled loud mayhem.
On Human Target there is a song titled “Death Squad Anthem” and this is one of the songs which stands out greatly on the record because of the meaning in the lyrics and how the band sounds on the track. The lyrics in this song does have a dark theme because of what the lyrics are about and judging by how the lyrics were written, this song reflects on how angry the bad is with society. This anthem represents people who are mad about how society is being destroyed by wealthy or political figures and perhaps the only way for people to feel safer in society is to destroy those who created the mess. The song starts off with fast-paced and electrifying guitar music riffs by Marsh, Delander and Butler. The sound of the guitars provides anticipation fans want to hear from the album and not to mention, the wailing guitar music will have the fans headbanging to their musical notes. Along with the guitar music, the drumming by Beahler stays in rhythmic tune with the guitarists and the rapid drum beats contribute to the anticipation of the song. Also, McMahon’s vocals are dynamic on this track because of how emotional he is while he is performing the song.
Another song on the album which has a confrontational topic is the title track “Human Target,” and the meaning of the song is just as deep as the music. In the song, the band seems angry with how society is treating people and in some ways, the people want to take back what is theirs by killing those who are destroying their society. Also the song could possibly mean how we have become human targets to certain things in our society such as politics and perhaps the band feels like we are not aware of what is actually going on around us and they can see how politicians use us as a target regardless of who we support. The lyrics to the song do have a deep meaning but the music provides the feeling of disgust on the track. The song kicks off with deep and wild guitar riffs as the drums can be heard playing a slow tempo. McMahon’s vocals are erratic on this track because he is able to keep his vocals on a lower tune while singing a grungy tune. When listening, McMahon’s also sound raw and that is due to how low he is screaming in the song. Marsh and Delander have guitar solos are dynamic because the sounds coming from both guitars provides the energy fans want to hear and feel, Butler’s bass guitar can be heard thumping a slow and tune in the background which can cause listeners hearts to skip a fast beat, and Butler’s drumming is low key but he does a good job providing slow but powerful drum beats on the track. Thy Art is Murder did a good job on this song and it would be interesting to hear what the fans and listeners think about the song and its meaning.
Also the song “Eye For an Eye’’ is an insightful song because of how it is put together musically. The title of the song is a well-known phrase that means hurting a person the same way he or she has hurt you. In some ways, fans and listeners can relate to the song because everyone has had the feeling of wanting to hurt people the way they have been hurt and in some cases, they proceed with the course of action. In the song, the band displays hatred in a powerful way and nothing can stop them from hurting the people who have hurt them. Surely some fans and listeners do agree with what the statement the band is making which is treat the others the same way they have treated you. The music kicks off with the sound of a drum cymbal being hit then the sound of rhythmic drum beats play a mellow tune, the guitars play a bittersweet guitar riff through the whole song, the bass guitar starts with a slow tempo but picks up the pace with the rest of the band later in the song and the vocals on this track are cutting edge because McMahon is clear with authority. The band lights it up on this track and some fans and listeners will appreciate the effort the band put into this song.
Overall, Thy Art is Murder did a great job with Human Target and judging by the music, the band will not put on the brakes in the near future.
