Global Citizen Festival has announced the lineup for the 2019 iteration of their festival. The festival will be taking place at Central Park in New York City on September 29th. Global Citizen Festival will be completely free this year to festival goers who, “take a series of actions to create lasting change around the world”, according to Pitchfork.

This year’s lineup includes hugely successful artists like Queen + Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, OneRepublic, H.E.R., and Carole King. The festival also lists French Montana (an NYC native), Ben Platt, and Jon Baptiste and Stay Human as “special guests”. Queen + Adam Lambert are currently on the North American leg of their Rhapsody tour, and also recently performed at the Oscars in celebration of the Freddie Mercury biopic and Best Picture nominee, Bohemian Rhapsody. Coincidentally, Pharrell Williams launched his own festival this year called Something in the Water. The festival took place at Pharrell’s hometown, Virginia Beach. This month, Alicia Keys has ventured into TV, joining Benj Pasek and Justin Paul as an executive producer on a musical drama set to be released on Showtime.

Global Citizen Festival was founded in 2012 and is organized by the Global Poverty Project. The festival seeks to “support Global Citizen in its fight to end extreme poverty”. According to the festival’s website, since the event’s inception in 2012, there have been roughly 22.3 million actions taken by Global Citizens that have generated nearly $38 billion in commitments and policy announcement from leaders around the world. Last year’s lineup included massive stars like Cardi B, the Weeknd, Janet Jackson, and more.

Matthew Jordan: I grew up in Massachusetts, but I am currently a student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I picked up my first musical instrument (viola) in the 3rd grade, and have been a fan of everything the medium has to offer ever since. Some of my favorite artists right now include Matt Maltese, Idles, MIKE, Benny the Butcher, Standing on the Corner, Built to Spill, and Frank Ocean. I also love following the charts and the music business to see what is connecting with listeners and why.
