Elbow Release A 7-Minute Psychedelic Trip On “Dexter & Sinister”

Elbow has just released their first new song in over 18 months, ‘Dexter & Sinister.’ This seven minute song draws characteristics from several different types of rock and fuses them all together to create a beautiful blend of the old and the new. Recorded at Clouds Hill Studio’s in Hamburg, Germany, the start of the song drops into a bass riff that would remind you of a Tame Impala sort of feel. The ‘light my fire’ type guitar screech gives it that 70’s acid rock type vibe that you would find prevalent in artists like The Doors. The angelic like vocals in the middle of the song remind you of My Morning Jacket, and the band just does a great job of tying it all together to take you on seven minute psychedelic trip.

‘Dexter & Sinister’ will be featured on their forthcoming album, Giants of all Sizes, set to release October 11th. The name actually comes from a coat of arms where darkness and sinister represent opposing sides. The band has announced that they are also going to be releasing a limited edition one sided 10 inch vinyl that will include lyric etching on the B side of the record.

The band recruited some help for this project getting longtime friend of the band and singer-songwriter Jessica Hoop to help out with some vocals. Although this has been the first new music from the band in while, they have been actively performing in festivals throughout the year. They were even just recently selected to be one of four ambassadors for National Album Day, which takes place on Saturday, October 12th. Elbow is expected to announce a number of UK and European headline shows following the release of their album, but nothing has been officially announced. If ‘Dexter & Sinister’ is a basic representation of what Giants of All Sizes will be then this album is going to be a great depiction of different generational musical qualities blended together.
