Indie singer-songwriter Mikal Cronin has released a new track entitled “Show Me,” which will be off his forthcoming album Seeker, which is set to be released on October 25 via Merge records. A music video directed by Yasi Salek for the aforementioned track has also been released, which show Cronin and his friends jamming out in a 1964 Ford Falcon.
“‘Show Me’ is a song about feeling small in an overwhelming world,” says Cronin in a press release. “There’s a not-quite-subtle hint of the Heartbreakers in the instrumentation and arrangement, having asked many friends to play or sing. It’s one of my favorite songs from the album, I hope you like it too.”
“Show Me,” follows Cronin’s previously released single “Undertow,”featuring William Tyler and Shannon Lay which was his first piece of to be released music in four years. This latest album was recorded after he took a retreat in Idyllwild, California where he remained secluded in a cabin all alone for a month.
“It was so quiet and peaceful. I got weird looks at the store. I got bug bites that didn’t heal for months,” Cronin explained regarding the album process. “I walked around a small lake a few times. I wrote. I took literally something that’s usually a hypothetical, something every artist thinks about doing. It worked.”
After his brief stint in Idyllwild, Cronin went to Palmetto Studios in Los Angeles, where he began recording the album, with close friends and engineer Jason Quever. The record was backed by Ty Segall’s Freedom Band, as he strung together themes and natural imagery into his music, that reflected his stay in Idyllwild.
“I wanted to bring you into the room. Jason and I talked about the Beatles’ White Album a lot when placing mics,” Cronin continued. “I brought a charred pine cone from the woods to the studio, just in case it would help. Fire—specifically its cycle of purging and reseeding the landscape—is a central theme to the record. Death and rebirth.”\
