Death Cab For Cutie Announces New EP The Blue EP For September 2019 Release Debut Ironically Upbeat New Track “Kids In ’99”

Death Cab for Cutie has announced a new EP called The Blue EP scheduled to be released September 6. The EP will include five tracks, including its first single “Kids in 99.” While the track provides an upbeat production, the song was written in tribute to three children who lost their lives in the 1999 Bellingham Olympic Pipeline explosion in Seattle, Washington. The band’s very own Ben Gibbard discussed the new track in a press release, stating “The Olympic Pipeline explosion in 1999 was a tragedy that really affected me while we were living in Bellingham. After all these years I felt it was worthy of its own folk song.”

The EP serves as the follow up to last year’s Thank You for Today. They were also recently featured on Chance the Rapper’s debut album The Big Day on the track  ‘Do You Remember,’ released last Friday. They will be also wrapping up their final leg of their tour in North America, kicking off with an official Lollapalooza aftershow Thursday, Aug. 1 in Chicago, IL. The group will then play the official Lollapalooza festival the following day alongside Tame Impala, Childish Gambino, Flume, Ariana Grande, and Twenty One-Pilots throughout its four-day run. Other tour stops include two nights in San Diego, CA, a night at the Hollywood Bowl with Car Seat Headrest, Vancouver, and Redmond, WA. See the band’s full itinerary below.
