Merriweather Post Pavilion operator Seth Hurwitz has announced that he expects Woodstock 50 tickets to be made available for free. The Columbia, Maryland venue was recently tapped as the replacement for the original New York venue after the festival organizers’ permit fell through. Woodstock 50 has been having public logistic issues for months now, including (but not limited to) the delay of ticket sales, exiting investors, and an unclear lineup.
Hurwitz stated in response to an inquiry from Pitchfork about the free ticketing model, “That was the last thing we heard too… we’re still waiting to hear who is playing, but that’s not our job. They do still have venue if they have a show”. While it does seem that Woodstock 50 may still be happening, with marquee artists like Jay-Z, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Dead and Company dropping out, there are definitely still concerns. The current venue operator’s lack of information on the lineup and festival is also not the best outlook.
Pitchfork also mentioned that rather than being a for-profit event, the music festival is now being billed as a benefit concert, where there will be opportunities for attendees to donate to charities. Woodstock organizers are supposed to be receiving their tickets in the next few days.
