Anna Calvi Announces Fall 2019 Tour Dates

Anna Calvi pushes the envelope in her music by transcending the elusive boundaries of feminine and masculine traits. Her three albums have been a great hit thus far and she has announced her fall tour dates in the UK and two US shows in December. The UK shows will be in the UK, Finland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and US shows will take place on December 4 at The Echo in Los Angeles and December 7 at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, New York. She will perform songs from the album, Hunter.

In her album, Hunter she has song titled, “As a Man,” where she is described as ‘mocking the all-too-common, misogynistic practice of praising women for acting “manly” but tearing down men for acting feminine’. In the track,  “Don’t Beat the Girl out of My Boy”, Calvi criticizes the conditioning of children to conform to stereotypical gender roles.

Calvi has been shortlisted for the 2019 Mercury Prize, in fact this is her third nomination (one nomination for each album) for the Mercury Prize and she says, “I’m so thrilled to get shortlisted, this is such a personal record and I put everything I had into it. It really means the world to me.”

More importantly, Calvi has scored the entire season of Peaky Blinders the amazingly, stellar series on BBC One. Calvi is extremely thrilled about it and says, “This is a new thing for me but it was a really good fit, I love everything about the show. I completely immersed myself in it and became quite obsessed with the characters, especially Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) and getting lost in his mind.” She also adds, “There is a duality to the show, a beauty and a brutality, which I have been exploring in my own music and on the ‘Hunter’ album. I want to say thank you to the director Anthony Byrne for believing in me and letting me seek out what I needed to.”

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
