Dynamic album produced by a creative individual
Best known as the guitarist for the American heavy metal band The Sword, Kyle Shutt has campaigned to embark on his solo album journey. With the band going on indefinite hiatus on September of 2018, Shutt started a Kickstarter to fund his ideas that wouldn’t work with any of the bands he’s been a part of. Considering his history— being in a doom metal band, Doom Side of the Moon and the Pink Floyd cover band,— his solo album will come as a surprise to fans who may have been expecting music along those lines. Kyle Shutt is a dynamic album that encompasses a wide variety of rock such as punk, industrial and more.
Every instrument heard and all of the vocals on the album are all Shutt which, once people listen through, they will be in awe of his talent. After all, it was his supporters that backed him and donated money so that his ideas could come to fruition.
As soon as listeners hear the first note of “Big City,” they will know they’re in for a treat. The catchy vibe and consistent drumbeat act as the initial grab. Considering that this song was pre-released from before the album came out, people got to experience Shutt’s creativity and build excitement for the rest of the nine tracks.
Immediately after, fans are gripped by a great introductory guitar riff and get to experience a Shuff guitar solo near the end of “I Can’t Dance.” While the solo is short-lived, people can still appreciate the skills displayed. Each song offers a different element to focus on.
“Too Much Time Too Much Money” is a fast-paced headbanger, bu,t right after, “Awake” starts slowly with chimes that are representative of the rest of the song. Drawn out guitar notes create a slow rhythm which is the same pace for the vocals. Out of all the songs, this is the doom track of the album.
Even amidst all the rock vibes that most of the album exudes, the last two songs— “Stronger Than The Earth” and “No Reply”— give off a bluesy, country atmosphere. They certainly slow things down in a different way than “Awake” that is equally captivating. They allow fans to soak in and appreciate the versatile album and have them hitting replay after the last note fades.
Overall, each song on Kyle Shutt will have people admiring the creativity and skills that went into this solo project. Kyle Shutt made the opportunity for himself to experiment outside of the genres he’s known for. From punk to industrial to bluesy and country, people can experience it all on this ten-track album.
