Metronomy’s New Video for “Walking In The Dark” is a Psychedelic Explosion of Color

English electronic band Metronomy has released a music video for their newest song, “Walking In The Dark.” The song is a single off their upcoming sixth studio album, Metronomy Forever. The band has released two other singles, “Salted Caramel Ice Cream” and “Lately“, in anticipation of the September 13th release date.

Director/Metronomy frontman Joseph Mount goes all out with both psychedelia and silliness in the video for “Walking In The Dark”. From the very beginning, where Mount is dancing in some kind of rubber full body suit with his face poking out, the video explores a number of colorful and strange visuals. The video is filled with great moments, like bass guitarist Olugbenga Adelekan dancing next to a kids toy against a pink coral background, the whole band awkwardly dancing as the camera rotates around them, and the final closeup shots of the band members still dancing against a kaleidoscopic background. My personal favorite part of the music video is the extended shot of the guitarist’s long hair moving in slow motion as the camera tilts up towards a pink and gold carousel-like animation.

The song’s unique amalgamation of a few different sounds matches the video’s psychedelic collage-like style. Classic synths, 70s influenced keyboards, and dancehall sounds all clash with Mount’s repetitive use of the lyric, “Holler if you need me, girl” to create a very hypnotic song.

Matthew Jordan: I grew up in Massachusetts, but I am currently a student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I picked up my first musical instrument (viola) in the 3rd grade, and have been a fan of everything the medium has to offer ever since. Some of my favorite artists right now include Matt Maltese, Idles, MIKE, Benny the Butcher, Standing on the Corner, Built to Spill, and Frank Ocean. I also love following the charts and the music business to see what is connecting with listeners and why.
