Singer-songwriter John Prine has announced that he will be postponing his upcoming summer tour dates due to medical complications. The 72 year old folk singer was advised by medical personnel to take time off to address his health, which the singer then shared on social media. In a post made to Instagram on Tuesday, Prine shared that his doctors had told him he was at an elevated risk of a stroke. In order to remedy this the singer will be undergoing surgery later this week in order to fix the issue. The singer also said that he hopes to make a quick recovery, hoping to return to his music as soon as possible.
Prine started his career in the 1970s, becoming one of the most well known folk singers of his time. After around 50 years making music, Prine has an incredibly extensive discography and has worked with dozens of world class artists. Prine’s current tour was in support of his most recent album, 2018’s The Tree of Forgiveness.
While most of the shows for the tour have yet to be rescheduled, a few have already been given new dates. Prine’s show at Red Rocks in Colorado has been moved to September 18th of this year and his show at the Edmonton Folk Festival has been scheduled for next year’s event. In his post on social media, Prine noted that all tickets to the original dates of the postponed shows will be valid once the show is rescheduled, and that refunds would be available for those who desire one.
