Mark Lanegan Band Share Psychedelic New Track For “Letter Never Sent”

Alternative music veteran Mark Lanegan just released his latest single, “Letter Never Sent,” previewing what it is to be in store for the Mark Lanegan Band’s forthcoming album, Somebody’s Knocking. The track is a retro psychedelic jam session that is accompanied by a dark and ominous choir consisting of Langegan’s raspy baritone voice.

The singer-songwriter and musician’s new single delivers a distinct alternative sound which can be attributed to his impressive track record from being a member of Queens of the Stone Age to collaborating with Kurt Cobain. “From the opening bars of “Disbelief Suspension” onwards, it’s clear that Somebody’s Knocking is an album made by someone deeply obsessed with how music—with all its primal, spiritual healing power —truly penetrates the soul” a press release stated.

The album was made during an 11-day studio session in Los Angeles where Lanegan ironically collaborated with some of his favorite European artists such as Martin Jenkins and Rob Marshall. The writing style on the album has been described as painting vivid psychedelic pictures in listeners heads and works in harmony with the album’s “healing” sound. “I feel like I write lyrics instinctively. I let the melody come first and then it tells me what the words are going to be and I write whatever feels appropriate” Lanegan said.

Lanegan will be celebrating the new single by performing with NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers’ in-house band, the 8G Band from tonight until July 25. The 8G Band consists of Portlandia star Fred Armisen, Les Savy Fav’s guitarist, Seth Jabour, and Girls Against Boys keyboardist, Eli Janney.

In recent news, Lanegan was noted for canceling his show at California music festival Stoned and Dusted. The singer tweeted his condolences to the other musicians he would miss seeing and his fans who were looking forward to watching him perform that weekend.

He also announced his 2019 spring tour dates and will continue the tour this fall when he will be departing on a UK/EU tour that will launch in Coruña, Spain and end in Belfast, UK.

Alex Myers: I'm an Okie living in L.A. writing about music and other things that I'm passionate about. I was raised by musicians and I grew up playing bass guitar, piano and cello. You can always find me with my headphones on or glued to my phone reading the latest music news. My passion for music lead me to attend college at Loyola Marymount University in L.A. with the dreams of making a living in the music industry. After interning for two record labels I was certain that working in the music industry was not for me. However, when I started writing for my college's newspaper, I figured out that I was a talented writer and I subsequently changed my career path. Now I'm combining my two passions and aspiring to become a music writer.
