Bob Dylan and Neil Young performed “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, Ireland on July 14. It is their first time to share the same stage since 1994’s gig at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, Pitchfork reports.
Written by Ada R. Habershon and composed by Charles H. Gabriel in 1907, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” is a popular Christian hymn. It is also an early work of Dylan that was recorded in his double album with the Band, The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11. The performance on Sunday night marks Dylan’s first rendition since the Rolling Thunder Revue in 1976, noted by Pitchfork. Check out the footage videos below.
Bob Dylan’s music talents and outstanding lyrism are accepted facts, which have been generally acknowledged since the legend won Nobel prize for Literature in 2016. His masterpieces are covered by young and old musicians. Grammy-award winner Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon covered Dylan’s “Angelina” at 37d03d Festival lately. Mercury Prize-nominated Laura Marling also released cover of Dylan’s early classic work “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” before.
Neil Young, meanwhile, has been called an eternally restless figure. The legend lost his former wife Pegi Young earlier this year but it didn’t stop him musically. He recently finished headlining sets at BottleRock Fest 2019 and Denmark’s Tinderbox music festival. Young is also currently on the road with his band Promise Of The Real this summer and will perform at 2019’s Farm Aid festival on September 21. It is worth mentioning that rock band Crazy Horse announced a forthcoming album with Young is brewing.
