R. Kelly Arrested on Two Sets of Federal Sex Abuse Charges

After being arrested Thursday night while walking his dog, singer R. Kelly now faces a pair of federal sex abuse charges The Guardian reports. One indictment is from the state of New York while the other is from Chicago. The charges include alleged racketeering and sex-related crimes against women and girls, transporting for prostitution and coercion or enticement of female. Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, stated that the arrest and federal charges did not come as a surprise, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

In Chicago, the unsealed indictment includes nine counts of enticing a minor, three counts of child pornography and one count of obstruction of justice. It alleges sexual contact between Kelly and five girls under the age of 18 as well as describing four videos in which Kelly allegedly “engaged in sexual contact and sexual acts” with the underage girls. Members of Kelly’s entourage, Derrel McDavid and Milton Brown, were also named in the Chicago indictment.

The New York indictment is 18 pages and accuses Kelly of allegedly recruiting and women and girls to engage in sex. Other accusations in the indictment include that he allegedly put limits on when or what they could eat and their ability to use the bathroom. The New York indictment also includes charges of transporting for prostitution.
