Swedish prog-masters Opeth are getting ready to drop what is being hailed as one of the most anticipated rock/heavy metal albums of the year titled In Cauda Venenum, or, poison in the tail in Latin.
According to mxdwn In Cauda Venenum will be Opeth’s 13th album and is being released in both Swedish and English by Moderbolaget/Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Even though the album has been announced for quite some time, the release date has not been revealed until recently. In Cauda Venenum will drop on September 27th.
The first single for In Cauda Venenum has recently dropped and boasts a bi-lingual visualizer as the official video on YouTube. “Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör” / “Heart In Hand” is a perfect introduction to In Cauda Venenum as the album is said to have more of a “sonic” direction and have a different form of heaviness that doesn’t rely on the typical tropes of heavy music like tuned down guitars and over the top screaming vocals. Even though “Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör” / “Heart In Hand” definitely embodies the lighter side of heavy music, with more toned down guitars and lighter vocals, it is still completely metal and can totally be moshed to.
According to the press release sent to mxdwn, “Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör” / “Heart In Hand” was one of the first songs that Opeth had written for In Cauda Venenum and is said to be one of the more straightforward songs on the album. The single features a happy accident, as while they were recording the song, the bass player’s bass broke but they decided that it sounded good so they kept it in.
