Legendary horror punk band The Misfits are wrapping up their last tour ever as The Original Misfits, which features three of the band’s founding members Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein. After teasing a possible show at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City, the band have finally confirmed date for a show at the venue, October 19th.
This is the band’s fifth upcoming performance, after a stop at Las Vegas’ Psycho Las Vegas (where they replacef Megadeth), Denver Colorado, Oakland California and Seattle, Washington. Rancid and The Damned are set to open up the event for the legendary performers, for what the band is calling “their hometown Halloween show.” Posts from the band’s social media and LiveNation’s social media have confirmed this performance. Presales will begin on July 17.
Danzig has claimed that the band is not planning on hosting the reunion tour for long, and stated that the tour is not likely to continue in the future. Despite this, the band has added a few more scheduled tour stops, that the ones which were originally planned.
“With the Misfits thing, we just kinda got back together and just decided we’d do it here or there, and just not make it a grind kinda tour,” Danzig revealed in an interview. “We just want to make each event special. We’re not gonna do many more. I know we just announced Seattle and Denver, but I’m pretty sure there’s not gonna be many more of them.”
Despite initial speculation that the shows were done after a reconciliation between Danzig and Only, who had a falling out many years prior, court documents showed that the reunion tour was part of a legal settlement.
“The parties agree to perform no fewer than ten (10) Misfits reunion shows to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the band,” the settlement read.” The parties shall split all proceeds (including merch for the tour as well as any reunion-specific merch to be sold at retail) from any such reunion endeavors 50/50 after deduction of expenses.”
