Chris D’Elia Raps As Eminem In Logic’s Comedic New Music Video For “Homicide”

The new video, “Homicide” from Logic is a double double take. The story begins with Logic’s buddy sharing that he can get a body double when Eminem is not able to make the video. Logic is freaking out because he cannot conceive of using a body double in a video. His buddy mentions he can also get Logic a body double and it’s going to be Squints from The Sandlot, aka Chauncey Leopardi while Chris D’Elia plays Eminem. Logic completely freaks out but agrees to it after seeing the awesome performance.

The video begins with Paul Rosenberg, who is Eminem’s music manager leaving a voicemail stating that Eminem can’t do the video because he’s traveling up north. Logic takes to FaceTime to chat with Chauncey who appears to be in a 7’ll and trying to downplay his excitement in getting the part. He turns around and busts out a stellar performance which is sure not to disappoint. The rap is quick, smooth with lyrics, “Slim shady, none of you mother fuckers impress me.” It is fast and sharp as Logic busts through the song. Lyrics like, “Hit em with this. I got bitches, I got hoes, I got red designer clothes. No, no please do not do that” are churned out very fast.

The song then turns to Chris D’Elia who shares with Logic that he’s ‘way ahead of you’ and portrays Eminem perfectly. He busts out lyrics, “Hold up I said, I wrote over my opponents. When I go ‘ruff’ like the doberman said. You’re about to get out rhymed. I don’t have to say a fucking thing though. I wipe my ass with six mil, big bills.” Eminem is tight with this portion of the song, it’s like time stood still in one sense that his lyrical genius pours through so effortlessly.

In the end, there is a text from Eminem that reads, “Message from Marshall Mathers” and the message says, “D’Elia doesn’t play me. I play D’Elia.” The video has reached over 18.7 million views on youtube so far. In the end, there is a clip from Chris D’Elia doing an impression of Eminem, which Eminem himself approved.

The song “Homicide” is the third single off of Logic’s upcoming album, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Logic previously debuted the previous singles from the album: “Keanu Reeves” in January and “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” in March. According to Logic, the album should be “coming soon,” but there is no set release date for it yet.

In an interview with Billboard, D’Elia shares, “I’ve never talked to Eminem, he seems like kind of an elusive guy, but obviously he’s awesome,” says D’Elia, who admits to not being very good at impressions, but, for whatever reason, figured out how to do a very credible version of Em’s twisty, speedy flow. “But Logic reached out to say thanks, and I was like, ‘Dude, of course.’ We traded compliments, and he’s a really nice guy and he texted me today to say, ‘Dude you snapped and people love it!’ I wrote back, ‘Dude, that’s awesome. You’re the man!'”

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
