In an article on The PRP, the prolific heavy metal musician Philip Anselmo has stated that he “doesn’t really feel like doing Superjoint anymore”. While he didn’t elaborate too much on this, he did cite a busy schedule with his other musical obligations. Another one of bands that Anselmo is most well-known for fronting is Down. They are approaching the 25th anniversary of their first album, NOLA, and as Anselmo states in the interview, he “expects” to do a few shows around that time. He also mentions the other projects of his fellow band members in the interview, and that he would not want to “interrupt anybody’s life” with his own ventures.
Superjoint, originally known as Superjoint Ritual, was founded by Anselmo, Joe Fazzio, and Jimmy Bower in the 90s. The group released three albums across about fifteen years of activity. They split up in 2004, but eventually reunited for some tours and their final studio album, Caught Up in the Gears of Application, in 2014.
Philip Anselmo has remained busy with quite a few bands and side projects throughout his long career. He is most well-known as the vocalist for the iconic and Platinum-selling Pantera. Anselmo is also a founding member of Down, another extremely successful metal group. The group is no longer active. He has also released two solo albums with his backing band, The Illegals. His most recent solo project, Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue, was released just last year to positive reviews. Some of Anselmo’s smaller projects include black metal band Scour, the gothic rock-focused En Minor, and his collaboration with horror cinema legend Bill Moseley, Bill and Phil.
