New York hip hop artist A$AP Rocky has been arrested in Stockholm, Sweden, over charges for “gross assault,” after an altercation on the city’s streets. A video filmed earlier this week shows A$AP Rocky throwing a man in the air, while member’s of his entourage appear to throw punches.
The rapper was in Stockholm to perform for the city’s Smash music festival which was set to occur that week, In response to the charges, A$AP Rocky shared a couple of posts on social media defending himself, stating that the two men were harassing him and his entourage for several blocks before the confrontation occurred.
“Hits security in face with headphones then follow us,” A$AP Rocky wrote on Instagram. “Im innocent. They trynna arrest me out here now, SMH.” In the caption to a follow-up video, A$AP Rocky explained, “So a few drug addicts are not my fans. We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble, they followed us for 4 blocks, and they were slapping girls butts who passed, give me a break.”
Three other people have also been arrested as a result of this incident according to a Swedish Prosecution Office spokesman. It is unknown what relationship the other people arrested hold with the rapper if any, while the prosecution office states that the investigation into the matter is only at its initial stage.
This is the second time A$AP Rocky has been accused of assault, back in 2013 the rapper was charged “with misdemeanor simple assault, a class two misdemeanor,” for allegedly slapping a woman during the 2013 Budweiser Made In America Festival. A$AP Rocky has consistently denied the allegations, and the issue was eventually settled by the two parties back in 2015.
Recent projects that the artist has been involved with include the collaborative album For The Throne, which hosts music based off of the HBO television series Game Of Thrones. The Weeknd, The National, and The Lumineers are among the high-profile guests that the album features.
