Steven Adler Of Guns N Roses Fame Hospitalized After Accidentally Stabbing Himself

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after accidentally stabbing himself. A 911 was received from Adler’s house on Thursday (6/27) and the paramedic arrived shortly after.

Adler’s representative made a statement to TMZ saying that “the stabbing was not suicide attempt, and simply an accident.” He did not specify how the accident occurred, but the wound was not detrimental because the drummer still plans to perform on July 12 in Las Vegas at The Golden Nugget.

His stabbing raised a concern that it was due to a relapse from his past addiction to cocaine and heroin, but his representative assured TMZ that Adler has been sober for several years.

His addiction started in the 1980s and lead to his grand exit of the band in the 1990s when he was removed from the group in the midst seeking treatment. In a 2017 interview with blabbermouth.net, Adler explained that his addiction was not the main reason that he was kicked out of the band.

“If people think that I got kicked out of Guns N’ Roses for doing drugs, they are so mistaken. Everybody in that band was doing drugs. I was doing less than anybody. I got kicked out of the band, and Izzy got kicked out of the band, and then Slash and Duff did, because Axl wanted to take control of everything — he wanted to own the name, he wanted to be the only person who gets paid for the songs” Adler said.

In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Adler disclosed that he attempted suicide multiple times while battling with the turmoils of his addictions. The damages from his past drug use caused him to have a stroke leaving one side of this face completely paralyzed.

Since then, he has been open about his addiction and appeared on season two and five of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.” He explained in an interview on the SIRIUS-XM show, OutQ, that he chose to speak publicly about it in order to put himself in a position to be held accountable for his sobriety.

The drummer has continued to make music and in 2016, he reunited with Gun N’ Roses to perform “Out Ta Get Me” and “Michelle.” He also formed a band in 2003 called Adler’s Appetite and went on tour covering Guns N Roses songs and original pieces. The band released a self-titled EP in 2005 and another EP in 2012 called “Alive” in 2012.

You can always find me with my headphones on or glued to my phone reading the latest music news. My passion for music lead me to attend college at Loyola Marymount University in L.A. with the dreams of making a living in the music industry. After interning for two record labels I was certain that working in the music industry was not for me. However, when I started writing for my college's newspaper, I figured out that I was a talented writer and I subsequently changed my career path. Now I'm combining my two passions and aspiring to become a music writer.
