mxdwn PREMIERE: Carol C Channels ’80s Vibes in New Video for “Hide Away”

New York City DJ and musician Carol C is getting ready for the release of her new album Seven and today we’re premiering a new song and video from the artist, “Hide Away.” The simple video is a perfect complement to the chillingly-cold production, which recalls the best of the 1980s.

The song begins with a deep synth tone before a reverberating guitar line enters the mix. The video features shots of her band playing the song, eventually focusing in on the singer with bleached hair, deep-colored lipstick and dark sunglasses.

“‘Hide Away’ was inspired by a close friend,” said Carol C. “This person was experiencing some inner struggles and I felt like as a result of them trying to run and hide away from their issues, they were actually trying to run away from themselves. The concept for the video was inspired by some of those classic black and white spy films where a person is hiding away by wearing a disguise.”

Carol C is best known as the singer of Si*Sé, the New York City downtempo band. The new album, which had its release crowdfunded on Kickstarter, was produced by Justin Filmer and Mario Mcnulty. Those craving a little more of that Si*Sé sound are in luck, as Carol C teams up with the band’s producer The Crystal Pharoah for one song. Seven is out on July 12 on Si*Sé Records.
