In a sassy new song called “Pretty (Chapter 10)” by Ingrid Michaelson, the singer songwriter belts out lyrics about fearlessness and takes ownership over her feelings. “Pretty (Chapter 10)” comes off the artist’s new Stranger Things inspired album titled Stranger Songs. Michaelson just released the lyric video for her newest track and it’s just as hard core as the song. So far, Michaelson has also released two other songs off of the upcoming album including “Missing You” and “Jealous.”
The music video is all animated and features badass shots of a drawing of a tall blond haired woman with strong features. She wears a white sweater with a heart, ripped stockings, a plaid skirt, and white boots. The lyrics are placed within circles sometimes surrounding the woman and sometimes in the center screen. This creates a kind of retro feel within the video with an 80s twist. Overall, the placement of the drawing of the woman beside the circles with lyrics act as a new take on a comic strip. Check out the video below:
The artist for the video is Nicola Scott who contributed to works and shows like Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Wonder Woman, and Teen Titans. Scott explained that she wanted the video to reflect the song and stated that the video and song, “… isn’t about a story, but more about a girl and an attitude.”
When talking about the Stranger Songs and her motivation for creating the album Michaelson wrote, “I wanted to create something through a different lens. There’s something about Stranger Things that’s really comforting, it brings me back to my childhood. It’s the best kind of escapism and I find myself seeking that now more than ever. I took inspiration from the show and the characters and all these ideas started to come to me. Every song on the record includes a reference from the show, some more specific than others, but all of the themes are universal – these are feelings everyone has.”
Michaelson is also a major The Notebook fan and even spoke out about wanting to bring the film to Broadway. Most recently the artist gave stunning performance at Webster Hall.
