Walkways – Bleed Out, Heal Out

Music helps people express themselves

Bands from different countries can influence those who choose to listen. The metal band Walkways was formed in Tel Aviv Israel in 2006. Vocalist Ran Yerushalmi, guitarist Bar Caspi, guitarist Yoni Menner, Bass guitarist Avihai Levy and drummer Priel Horesh have a new record released titled Bleed Out, Heal Out. The release of the album follows six years after the band’s first album titled Safe in Sound was released, and this new album delivers a powerful punch for their fans.

Bleed Out, Heal Out is a unique album due to Yerushalmi’s different vocal ranges. On some the songs, his vocals can be heard as loud, full of grunge and expressing emotion. Also, Yerushalmi’s vocal can be soft-spoken due to how the lyrics are being spoken in low talking voice. The guitars on the album are cutting edge because both Caspi and Menner provide an electric vibe metal music fans yearn for and on the album both guitarists play a beautiful acoustic tune. Levy’s bass guitar skills are dynamic on this record as on each track the low rumble of the strings can be heard blaring in the background and even on the slower tempos, Levy’s low rumbles can be heard while the guitarist’s play their tunes. Horesh’s drumming plays a vital role on the album because the drumbeat contributes to the energy on the album because. His drumming skills are what fans want to see and hear. Altogether, this album is just as superior as their last album Safe in Sound.

On the album there is a song titled “Despair ( For Heaven’s Sake)” and the song is unique because the band sings the line “For Heaven’s Sake” in the chorus multiple times and the vocals provides a sense of desperation as Yerushalmi pleads with God to help him survive a night filled with emotional pain. The guitar sounds from Caspi, Menner and Levy open the song with a high energy sound which is followed by Horesh’s loud and rhythmic drum beats. Right after the electrifying sounds of the guitars and drums, Yerushalmi’s voice can be heard screaming in the background before he switches his vocals into a grungy sound filled with emotion. Because of the emotions in the song, fans can understand how Yerushalmi is feeling while he is dealing with the emotional pain life can bring.

Also, on the album there is a song titled “Bleed Out, Heal Out” and in some ways, this song is special because fans can relate to it. Based on how the band is playing the music and how Yerushalmi’s voice sounds on the track, the song is about how people should let go of the negativity they hold inside of themselves as keeping the negative vibes inside can cause them to be angry at everything and when people choose to let the negativity go, the pain starts to bleed out and after bleeding out they start to heal by being whole again. The beginning of the song starts with the band singing the chorus and then Yerushalmi can be heard screaming a tune which is followed by the band playing a deep tune. This song is filled with pure metal music because of the way the guitars are being played in a fast and repeatable tune which can grab listeners attention and the drumming is spot on because the drum beats match the musical atmosphere in the song. What stands out in this song is how Yerushalmi’s vocal range is able to switch beautifully. Yerushalmi’s voice carries the band through the song and the fans will not be disappointed.

Another song which stands out on the album is titled “Care (In This Together )” and the reason why it stands out is because of  how complexed the guitar playing is. The guitar playing on this song is amusing because both Caspi and Menner use their guitar skills to switch the tune back and forth in different rhythms and both guitarists make it sound easy to use their skills to create a unique and complexed sound to flourish the theme on the track. Most of the songs on the album have a deep meaning but this song has a deeper meaning because of what the song represents. Yerushalmi is singing about how people have a better chance to fight their battles when there is someone by their side. Fans can relate to this song because everyone has struggled with the battles in their lives but there is someone who is willing to fight the battle with us and the companionship makes us stronger. Also, the song can unite people to care about what is going on in the world.

Overall, Bleed Out, Heal Out is a great album and fans will not be disappointed because the album is filled with the right touch of  metal music they have been waiting for and by listening to the album, perhaps fans can find their own walkway in their life.
