Kiesza Returns After 5 Year Absence With Heartfelt New Single “Sweet Love”

Canadian songstress Kiesza, described by Billboard as “ballerina-turned sailor-turned dance-pop upstart” is back after a five year hiatus, according to a press release sent to mxdwn. The last we have heard from Kiesza was her latest single, “Give it to the Moment”, released in 2015, as previously reported on by mxdwn.

The press release sent to mxdwn describes “Sweet Love” as “A tender, piano-driven track that teeters between a reflection on true love and a four-on-the-floor club anthem tinged with the ghostly operatic baritone of Phillipe Sly, ‘Sweet Love’ sees Kiesza welcoming listeners into a more intimate soundscape than she’s ever explored.”

Kiesza reveals in an interview with Paper Magazine that she wrote “Sweet Love” with a baritone opera singer and that the reason she took time off from working on her music was that she was in a car wreck that left her with a brain injury that she described as “traumatic.” She says that “Sweet Love” was healing for her, “I’ve been on a journey. I’ve been on quite a journey,” That journey is reflected in everything that ‘Sweet Love’ ends up being: moving, slow, powerful, and most of all, personal.”

The new single is flirty, fun, and a total banger. The song opens up with the lyrics “Open up my window, let a little wind blow/ You catching my drift/ Meet me on the side, go deep into my shadows/ Grant yourself a wish/ Give yourself a break, we’re making a mistake/ But maybe that’s okay for us/ Have a little fun, don’t worry what we done/ Won’t matter when we wake up”

“Sweet Love” is the perfect summer anthem with a beautiful melody and Kiesza’s strong voice. As for Kiesza’s hiatus, it is safe to say that it is over and she is fully back in the music game. According to the aforementioned Paper Magazine article Kiesza reveals that she has been working on a full blown musical production, “This is a project that’s been ongoing for the past year and a half…It’s a secret… We have the first draft of the script done and we’re finishing. I think we have five more songs to finish and then we’ll do the second draft and it’ll start going into production.”
