HR Of Bad Brains Announces New Solo Album Give Thanks For October 2019 Release

Paul Hudson, professionally known as HR, of the Washington D.C. based punk band Bad Brains has announced the release of a solo album, set to come out later this year, according to a press release sent to mxdwn.

HR has not had the easiest time in life, undergoing a major brain surgery in 2017 for a rare neurological disorder that causes intense clusters of headaches, as mxdwn previously reported. However, this did not slow down HR as he and the rest of Bad Brains announced that they were beginning work on their tenth studio album earlier last year, with their previous album, Into the Future, coming out 2012. Between the announcement of new music from Bad Brains and the announcement of his solo album, it is safe to say that nothing can slow HR down.

The album is titled Give Thanks and is set to be released on October 18th via Hardline Entertainment. The LP is available for preorder here as a limited edition black  vinyl, which are signed and limited to only 100 copies, or three additional  limited edition vinyls in red, green, and gold, a reference to HR’s involvement in the reggae and Rastiafarian movements. The red, green, and gold copies are signed and limited to 100 copies as well.

In the press release sent to mxdwn, the transition from HR’s change from punk to reggae and Rastiafarian was detailed. “Early in his career, HR became interested in reggae and the Rastafarian movement. These pursuits transformed him, and he began to focus more on the spiritual nature of reggae rather than the fast lifestyle of the punk scene.” the press release explains. “In 1984, HR formed his reggae-rock band Human Rights, which has performed and recorded in various incarnations for more than three decades. The current incarnation has a refined yet organic energy that hasn’t been felt since the early days of Human Rights.”

HR will be going on tour ahead of the release of Give Thanks. The tour includes venues in both the United States and venues in the United Kingdom. All tour dates can be found here on HR’s official website.
