Danish composer, producer, and artist Trentemøller debuts his new track and visuals for “In The Garden,” featuring Lina Tullgren, a single from his forthcoming album Obverse. Set to be released September 27th, Obverse is Trentemoller first album in three years. View the new single below.
A strong female singer such as Tullgren was seen as a perfect fit for this song due to her “warbling, compressed guitars, and reverb-soaked [ambiance] in her own music.”
Consequence Of Sound shares that Trentemoller intentions [were] not to make a hit, “instead chasing down any compositional thread of an idea that he picked up.” Without realization, he created his single through lyrics revolving around the unforeseen nature of songwriting.
The site continues by describing the track musically as having the sound of “pulses like a loop of water beating a drum.” They then go on to note how the “thick sound cuts to the forefront, [as] the patient bass and dreamy guitar lines that intertwine with Tullgren’s vocals, creating a placid feeling within the darkness.”
“I was thinking about how we don’t really write songs. We’re more like conduits for them, and often lyrics just flow out of you without any sort of rhyme or reason,” Tullgren says. “Sometimes it’s decisive, and you’re simply trying to capture what and how you felt in a situation, but more often it’s not about a deliberate process, and more like blindly channel- ling.”
