Alternative dream pop veteran Imogen Heap announced recently that she plans to release a new album filled with collaborations in 2020. The new album will fall on the artist’s 22nd anniversary of her solo career as she released her first solo album, iMegaphone, in 1998.
She recently finished the North American leg of her 2019 Mycelia World Tour with her Frou Frou partner Guy Sigsworth. The 13 city tour was noted by many fans due to the fact that the duo hadn’t performed together since 2003. The tour ended in Los Angeles at The Greek Theatre, but it will continue with its European branch in Berlin this fall.
Imogen Heap recently performed for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series where she showcased a Frou Frou song along with her own pieces. The performance showed how she is back and ready to deliver chilling live sessions after the break from her last tour in 2010.
Frou Frou recently came out with a song called “Guitar Song” in April bringing back the duo since its 2003 breakup.
In anticipation of the new album, the singer-songwriter has released three versions of her song “The Quiet.”
The first version is an acoustic soothing lullaby that transforms into an orchestrated masterpiece with a string section backing Imogen Heap’s angelic voice. The singer uses the acoustic backing to her advantage because she layers each recording of voice in a way that makes her sound like a world famous church choir.
Electronic pop artist Baths remixed the second version of “The Quiet” adding electronic/dance layers and drum pads to the song. Imogen Heap’s voice sounds like any other vocalist singing in an electronic song that would be played at an EDM festival, which further proves Baths ingenuity as a musician.
The third version of the song is an instrumental without any vocals. Listening to it allows fans to appreciate Imogen Heap’s ability to compose and arrange tracks: an ability that she harnessed while learning to play the cello, piano and clarinet at an early age.
What is most impressive about Imogen Heap is that she is balancing a tight schedule of releasing music, touring and shockingly managing a new data-driven online music managing website called Mycelia. The site gives music makes the opportunity to network themselves in the music industry while remaining friendly towards the environment with the lack of paper used.
