Thom Yorke Teases New Album Using Viral Marketing For Anima Technologies, Announces Fall 2019 Tour Dates With Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes

Thom Yorke, of Radiohead, seems to be teasing a solo album by a series of seriously cryptic viral marketing tactics, which have been successful as they have garnered attention on social media platforms like Twitter, as NME reported.

Yorke and Radiohead both have a lot on their plate right now, as Radiohead is dealing with the aftermath of a hacker getting into their unreleased music, as mxdwn reported last week, and Yorke is going on tour with his other band Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes in the fall, as reported by Under the Radar.

The marketing tactic Yorke is using is fake advertisements for “Anima Technologies.” NME reports that these “Anima Technologies” ads have popped up in a multitude of places, including a photo booth in Milan, a spot in the Dallas Observer, and in the London subway trains, as shown in this tweet.

The ad on the subway reads “Do you have trouble remembering your dreams? It’s a feeling that we at ANIMA know only too well. You’re deep in a surreal world where you can be anybody you like, where you can do anything. And then you wake up, and the dream fades. It’s gone, like smoke on the breeze. Or is it? Here it ANIMA we’ve built something we call a Dream Camera. Just call or text the number and we’ll get your dreams back. 07588-733-111”

If you call 07588-733-111 you will get a pre-recorded message  saying “Anima Technologies has been ordered by the authorities to cease and desist from undertaking its advertised business.” Yorke’s previously unreleased song “Not the News” plays in the background of the message.

Yorke discussed this upcoming album with NME earlier this summer and he says that it is inspired by anxiety, dystopian ideals, and a “crisis point” in societies current system. The album, as of now, is untitled with no release date and no hint as to what role “Anima Technologies” plays in the album, aside from grabbing viral attention.
