Indie royalty, Lana Del Rey, has teased her new single “Norman Fucking Rockwell”, from the upcoming LP of the same name as Pitchfork reported this week.
On June, 15th, Del Rey uploaded a post to her Instagram that shows her lip-synching to then unheard lyrics for “Norman Fucking Rockwell” in a black and white filtered video.
The lyrics Del Rey croons in her velvety voice are as followed, ““Goddamn manchild/ You f*cked me so good that I almost said ‘I love you’/ You’re fun and you’re wild/ But you don’t know the half of the sh*t that you put me through/ Your poetry’s bad and you blame the news/ But I can’t change that and I can’t change your mood/ Cause you’re just a man/ It’s just what you do/ Your head in your hands as you color me in blue/ Yeah you’re just a man/ All through and through.”
One of the most recent tastes we have gotten from the album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, was once again from Instagram, as mxdwn previously reported. In early April, Del Rey shared a video of her laying in a bed with a clip of an unnamed song with lyrics “You don’t ever have to be stronger than you really are/ When you’re lying in my arms baby/ You don’t ever have to go faster than your fastest pace or faster than my fastest cars” playing in the background.
Del Rey is teaming up with Jack Antonoff, of the Bleachers fame, for Norman Fucking Rockwell and told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe that working with Antonoff made her in a lighter mood, as his humor was contagious, as Variety reported. In the same interview she said that “the title track is called ‘Norman F—ing Rockwell’ and it’s kind of about this guy who is such a genius artist, he thinks he’s the sh– and he knows it and he won’t shut up talking about it. So often I ended up with these creative types — or not, or whatever — and they just go on and on about themselves and I’m like yeah, yeah. But there’s a little bit of merit to it, also. They are so good. I just like the title track so much that I was like OK, I definitely want the record to also be called that.”
As of now, there is no release date for Norman Fucking Rockwell but with the star power of Del Rey and Antonoff, the album will surely be one for the ages.
