Underworld Release Dissonant New Song “Hundred Weight Hammer”

British electronic music group Underworld releases their new song “Hundred Weight Hammer.” The new track is the latest single from their upcoming album DRIFT SONGS, set to be released October 25. DRIFT SONGS is the band’s first album release since its 2016’s Grammy-nominated LP Barbara.

Woozy, low-slung, detuned, twanging, questing, nagging, dissonant, and dreaming are just a few words to describe the visuals to the new single. The press release describes the video as a “brilliantly weird urban voodoo visual.”

Formed in 1980, Underworld is made up of members of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. After initially being known as a funk and synth-pop band, Underworld gained prominence, after revamping themselves in 1993, into the progressive house and techno act. They release seven subsequent albums, including the critically acclaimed Dubnobasswithmyheadman (1994). Known for their visual style and energetic live performances, the band has influenced a wide range of artists and has been featured in several soundtracks and scores for film, television, and even the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

“Hundred Water Hammer” is the follow up to the double-sided single “Soniamode (Aditya Game Mix)”/”Listen To Their No” and is episode 4, part 3 of their year-long DRIFT series during which the band released new music, film, and text pieces every Thursday.

Outside of preparing for the release of their upcoming album, the band has recently wrapped up four sold-out nights at the Sydney Opera House. They will be playing major festivals in Europe throughout the year, including Roskilde in Denmark, Sonar in Spain, Lollapalooza in Germany, plus arena shows in Antwerp, Amsterdam, and London.
