Arkansas native doom metal band Pallbearer has released their latest track “Atlantis.” The song is packaged with the track “Thorns-live” in an EP titled Atlantis that released June 14. This release comes after the band signed to the veteran independent record label Nuclear Blast Records who will release the band’s fourth full lengthed album this year.
“We are very honored to announce that we have signed a worldwide record deal with Nuclear Blast. We had the great privilege of working with them on the European distribution of our previous album, and it was quite clear that this was the next logical step for us,” the band stated.
The single was released through a subscription called the Sub Pop Singles Club that has recently been revamped after shutting down in 1993. The single came as a surprise to many fans due to Pallbearer’s track record of being heavily album-oriented.
In a press release the band said, “As many of you probably know by now, Pallbearer has always been very ‘album-oriented’ — when we are writing music, it’s often with the big picture in mind. However, we also thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to release pieces that might not necessarily fit into a larger album.”
The EP follows after a two-year gap between the release of the album Heartless in 2017.
“Atlantis” starts out with a swaying guitar line that leads into the trademark Pallbearer doom metal sound giving the track a high level of energy. The song exudes theatrical tones with its sudden changes in volume and its perfected orchestration.
Singers Brett Campell and Joseph Rowland deliver a godly vocal performance with their voices echoing throughout the track.
Pallbearer stands out from other doom metal bands as they put hope into the doom they present with their music. The band describes their sound in their beginning days as a force that “made songs about death and loss feel joyfully ecstatic.”
This unique life-death dynamic makes “Atlantis” an absolute must listen for those who seek a good vibe through melancholy sounds and deathly melodies.
