Experimental band 65daysofstatic has released their four song ep Fugue State, which is part of their year-long project Unreleased/Unreleasable Vol.4: A Year of Wreckage. The project is a series of monthly release of EPs ranging in size that will last from May 2019 until April 2020.
The band explained in a video of digital computer screen emulating a post-apocalyptic setting that Unreleased/Unreleasable Vol.4: A Year of Wreckage consists of songs that did not make their Decomposition Theory project.
Following the EP Kazimir, the first release of the year-long project in May, Fugue State is the second EP of the series that delivers a unique sound. Fugue State is based on what the band describes as a mechanical-electric-magnetic-sonic-machine that they made in an upstairs room of a pub five years ago.
“People came in [the room] about 12 at a time because that’s the most amount of people that could fit in the tiny space at once, pushed up close to this loud and malevolent structure of electricity and noise in the dark,” 65days stated.
Fugee State aims at taking the listening experience of being in that room above the pub where the band made the machine and transform it into a sound that can be listened to through headphones.
Each of the four songs on the EP varies in length from the nearly ten-minute song “FS_Original” to the barely three-minute song called “FS_Redux.”
Along with the EP, a video showing the machine installation was posted on 65daysofstatic’s YouTube channel. The video is an eerie, nearly eleven-minute clip of electro sounds, flashing lights and zoom shots of the various parts of the machine. It gives a visual reference to what the EP’s style and sounds are truly rooted in.
Every monthly release of Unreleased/Unreleasable Vol.4: A Year of Wreckage can be downloaded on the 65daysofstatic’s band camp for a £30 subscription.
The band has already announced the titles of future releases such as Looped Future in July and Ptolyweirds in August.
