mxdwn PREMIERE: Oceans of the Moon Deliver Funky Psych-Boogie on New Song “Borderline”

Oceans of the Moon is the latest band from Six Finger Satellite’s Rick Pelletier and they have a new self-titled album that’ll be released on John Dwyer’s Castle Face. Today, we’re pleased to premiere the latest song from that album, a vamping little synth-psych rock song called “Borderline.”

Oceans of the Moon hail from Providence, RI, which has had a thriving alternative music scene for decades (and is where Dwyer played in bands like Pink and Brown before moving west to San Francisco). Like other bands from the mid-sized East Coast city, Oceans of the Moon are a totally unique band that don’t sound like many other groups out there.

“Borderline” starts out quietly with nothing more than a steady drumbeat and whirling synthesizers. Eventually more electronics enter the mix, creating a boogieing instrumental sound that creates a spooky atmosphere behind the ghoulish lead vocals. “A magic ritual against the absurdities of life,” said Pelletier about the song. “Hole up, scope it out and wait all you want, we’re all on the ‘Borderline.'” Oceans on the Moon is out on July 8 via Castle Face Records.
