Cage The Elephant Cancels UK and European Tour Dates After Guitarist Nick Bockrath Suffers Onstage Injury

Indie mainstays Cage The Elephant Have just announced the cancellation of several of their UK and European summer tour dates after their guitarist, Nick Bockrath, suffered a leg injury on stage. According to Paste Magazine, the band was able to refund ticket buyers for all of their shows, with the exception of the Isle of Wight festival.

According to a social media post Bockrath suffered a ruptured PCL, a torn ACL, a fractured tibia and a damaged meniscus, which will require immediate surgery. It is unknown at this time whether or not this will impact the group’s upcoming summer co-headline Night Running tour with Beck. The two artists were going to be joined by  Spoon on all dates, as well as Starcrawler, Sunflower Bean, and Wild Belle in select cities.

“Sadly, our guitarist Nick Bockrath had an accident on stage at ‘PINKPOP’ and injured his leg badly (ruptured PCL, torn ACL, fractured tibia, damaged meniscus),” the band wrote on Twitter. “He tried to play through two shows, but he now requires immediate surgery and is currently getting the medical attention he needs.”

Cage The Elephant released their fifth studio album Social Cues earlier this year, which was their follow up to 2015’s Tell Me I’m Pretty. According to the band’s lead singer Matt Shultz, the album discussed the breakdown of his marriage to French actress and model Juliette Buchs, who married Shultz between the release and recordings of Melophobia and Tell Me I’m Pretty in 2014.

“It can be a vehicle to act out things that are hard to confront,” Shultz stated in a press release. “When I’m creating, I try to put myself in a reactive state of improvisational thought. I let images just arise in my mind and wait for it to evoke an emotional response and then when it does, I know I’m on to something.”

To coincide with their aforementioned Night Running Tour, Cage The Elephant and Beck have collaborated on a new single of the same name. This reggae infused track sees the two artists sing about vampires and x-ray vision.
