The Armed Sign with Sargent House and Release New Song “Ft. Frank Turner” with Unauthorized and Allegedly Stolen Vocal Takes by Frank Turner

Detroit hardcore collective the Armed put out a new song, “FT. FRANK TURNER” as part of the Adult Swim Singles program. The video was directed by Tony Wolski and starts out at a convenience store where a man at the register basically looks like a hairy chewbaca monster. There are a couple inside the store making out when the clock reads 12:05am. The store clerk and his buddy (who is a green leafed monster man waiting outside) are anxious to get out immediately. Once they leave the store, they hit the skate park and do many board and ramp tricks before they head out into an industrial area in the late night before one of them gets hit by a car and dies. The other is left crying and looking at his buddy lying in the street dying. The music is hard core punk as in the vein of the band who have just signed to Sargent House.

On Facebook, the Armed wrote that the track is “riddled with uncleared samples.” Since the release, Frank Turner said it contains his archival vocal recordings and that he has “no idea how they got hold of it.” In a tweet, Turner says, “O…K. So the band The Armed (who I quite like) have put out a song using my name. Whatever to that, but it also uses some recorded vocals of mine from a session about 8 years ago (a song I never finished).” He added that he’s “not very stoked about recordings getting used like that” and that “no one involved [is] getting back to him.”

Turner did say that, had the Armed asked him, he likely would have granted permission for use “because I think they’re ace,” but nevertheless condemned “raiding archives like this.” Find Frank Turner’s tweets below. He added that he’s “not very stoked about recordings getting used like that” and that “no one involved [is] getting back to him.”

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
