Griffin House and Joy Williams release a new song, “Change” which is a sweet duet that includes reminder lyrics, “We were never meant to stay the same. Change is coming.” The song is featured on House’s upcoming album Rising Star out June 28 on Evening Records. House said the song, which he wrote with Williams at her home in Nashville, was born in less than a day. The song is a reminder that everything changes, life evolves and people grow regardless of whether they want to or not. Change is coming for all of us, it’s a matter of when, how and what may be involved. The lyrics, “Feels like this is going too fast. Whoever said this was meant to last..change is coming.”
House says, “I co-wrote this song with Joy Williams, formerly of The Civil Wars. We sat in front of the fireplace at her home in Nashville and I remember showing her the idea for the verse. We worked on the words for an hour or two, and then out of nowhere she sang this beautiful chorus. We broke for lunch and came back and finished it that afternoon. It was one of those songs that took years to live and only one short day to write. Joy’s voice is magic.”
Williams has a new record, Front Porch, which is described as her most warm and comfortable to date. Her previous record was the electronica-veiled Venus, which took Williams out of her comfort zone. While it alienated some fans, the beautiful record brought her closer to where she needed to be to make Front Porch.
In a recent interview with mxdwn.com, Williams described her experience in winning a Grammy award. She said, “Oh, I was freaking out. I didn’t believe when people…I’d watch people at the Oscars, or whatever, win. They’d go walk up and say, ‘I completely blanked, I blacked out,’ but I remember our name being called and being like, ‘Surely that must’ve been a typo. Any second now, as we’re walking down the aisle, they’re going to be like, “Oh, wait, sorry. Not you guys. We meant someone else.”
House has spent more than 15 years touring with Josh Ritter, The Cranberries, John Mellencamp, and making records of his own. House’s new album, Rising Star features co-writes by The Lone Bellow’s Brian Elmquist and percussion by Ian Fitchuk, who nabbed an Album of the Year Grammy for his production of Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour.
