Recording artist Kate Tempest releases her new single “Holly Elixir,” via Republic Records. Tempest is a critically acclaimed British spoken word artist, rapper, poet, novelist, and playwright. Her new track is one taken from her highly anticipated third studio album, The Book of Traps and Lessons, out June 14th also via American Recordings/Republic Records.
Tracklist listed below.
The album has been in the making for five years. It was produced by legendary producer Rick Rubin and Tempest’s longtime collaborator Dan Carey.
According to the press release, The Book of Traps and Lessons follows Tempest’s previous releases, 2014’s Everybody Down and 2016’s Let Them Eat Chaos, both of which were shortlisted for Mercury Prize in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
Tempest dishes on the inspiration behind her new single by saying: “‘Holy Elixir’ was written as a kind of incantation. A psychedelic trip back to the beginning and deep into the present. It happens at a crucial point within the body of the album. It’s the penultimate moment. Taken out of that context, it stands on its own here.”
