Major Lazer Release New Video for “Can’t Take It From Me” Starring Skip Marley

Diplo’s Major Lazer premieres the music video for “Can’t Take It From Me.” The new video was directed by Irrum and features stars Skip Marley and the iconic Major Lazer figure as the High Priest of Lazerism.

While the group has been working non-stop on their fourth studio album, “Can’t Take It From Me” sees the return of their fictional figurehead.

The one-armed Jamaican War commando known as Major Lazer has found enlightenment and given up his physical form. He embarks on his mission of saving the universe with music as a sort of Godhead.

Irrum was inspired by his garden in Walthamstow as well as hidden stories within the painting of Alberto del Pozo. The song itself is a dance-pop melody that transitions from a very relaxed, tropical vide into a vibrant upbeat, while Marley sings a positive message of love and resilience.

“Can’t Take It From Me” is about no matter what people try and say, never let them take your light away. Through love and resilience, they can’t take it from you.

In “Can’t Take It From Me” lyrics, Marley states “You can’t take the light from the sun…You can’t take the waves from the ocean… You can’t take the wind from the trees…..No you can’t take the love out of me yeah.”

The video opens with several locals displaying different emotions looking towards the sky in which appears later on as a stone statue of Major Lazer. Through dance and hand, gestures Skip Marley and a host of island locals are seen worshipping throughout the video at that exact giant stone statue. The visuals of praising and dancing reiterate Marley’s message of love and resilience.
