Imperial Teen have unveiled a brand new track off of their forthcoming album Now We Are Timeless, which is set to be released on July 12 off Merge Records. The new track, entitled “Walk Away,” channels their signature indie-pop sound with a new shoegaze influence permeating throughout the track.
“We are a band that are together and not. Our collective history is our bond. Physically though, we live in different cities, lead different lives. Walkaway is a song about a feeling we’ve all known,” Imperial Teen explained in a press release. “Watching others, near and far and feeling distance and separation from what they’re experiencing. Feeling connected and independent at the same time. Closing the gap of physical distance and making our lives a more connected place.”
Now We Are Timeless will be the band’s first major studio album release in over seven years. During this time the band took some time off, yet also began recording this upcoming release in their various unique hometowns, New York City, the Bay Area, Denver, and Los Angeles.
This distance between the members, causes routine touring and recording to become difficult, in addition the band focused on different things in their personal lives.
“It is easy in the heart but ain’t easy strategically. We live in NYC, LA, SF, Denver. So three people always have to travel by plane to get ourselves in one place. We don’t have a practice pad anymore so that’s one more thing to work out when we get together,” Lynn Truell, the band’s drummer, stated in an interview with Faith No More Followers. “For the SF show, we practiced at FNM studio. And I have a studio of sorts in my basement in Denver, so that eases up some of the planning. I am the only one with kids and I have three of them, so it’s pretty hard to leave town on my end. That said, I have a music-fan of a husband, so he’s happy and very qualified to take my place when I leave. But, yes, as you stated, we all have very individual lives in our cities….”
