Jessie and Jennifer Clavin have released a new single and video, “Kiss You Goodbye,” off their upcoming album, Don’t You Think You’ve Had Enough?, which will be released on July 12th via Dead Oceans. The video, starring the two sisters, shows their adventures through a 1970s Los Angeles culture filled with staples such as classic Polaroids, body building and vintage clothing.
“Kiss You Goodbye,” is a funky and uptempo track, featuring a groovy bassline, and a classic guitar aesthetic reminiscent of much of the pop music that would be heard around early Los Angeles. The video also serves as their tribute to their native Los Angeles, featuring various scenes of a house in the suburbs.
“We all saw ‘Kiss you Goodbye’ as an opportunity to pay homage to our roots in the valley,” Juliana Giraffe, the music video’s director stated in a press release .”Not only are we all sibling sisters coming together, but also all San Fernando valley girls at heart. What better way to celebrate that than a quick shout out to backyard bbqs, body builders and a little boogie nights on a Sunday in beautiful Woodland Hills.”
This latest track is a departure of the sister’s early influences which contained a more pop punk sound and aesthetic. Jennifer Clavin explained that although she grew up in Los Angeles California, punk scenes east of Southern California also influenced her early punk influences.
“We would drive until we got to The Glass House or The Showcase in Corona. I remember seeing a lot of older bands like The Attics or The Rezillos or Subhumans,” She explained in an interview with Issue Magazine. ” One time we saw this band F-Minus play. I’d been going to shows every weekend and for some reason seeing them both onstage made me think, ‘Wait. Why don’t my sister and I have a band?’ Jessie was already playing bass heavily at that point. I remember trying to play bass a little bit, and that’s when I decided I should pick up a guitar, since they were laying around my house, and learn to play so me and Jessie could be in a band together”
