Indie rock band Pavement will reunite for the first time in almost a decade. After some time apart, the bandmates are coming back together to perform two shows at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto next year. The band announced their reunion during this year’s fest in Barcelona.
Members of the group include Stephen Malkmus, Scott Kannberg, Gary Young, Bob Nastanovich, Mark Ibold, and Steve West.
The band called it quits back in 1999, the same year as their last studio album Terror Twilight. 11 years later, they regrouped for a reunion tour in 2010, where the finished their last show at La Trastienda Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They also released the career-spanning compilation Quarantine the Past.
According to Pitchfork.com, lead singer and guitarist Stephen Malkmus made an appearance on the “Rolling Stone Music Now” podcast earlier this month, during which the singer-songwriter stated that the odds of Pavement reuniting were “realistic.” He told host Brian Hiatt, “Anything’s possible… If there’s interest, then that’s always a factor. If people are really psyched about it, I’d be psyched about it too. So we’ll see.”
Malkmus now performs with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Fellow bandmate Scott Kannberg also followed suit into redefining his identity the Spiral Stairs.
