Dog Blood (Skrillex & Boys Noize) Release Turn Off The Lights EP Today

Skrillex and Boys Noize return as Dog Blood for their new EP, Turn Off The Lights, out now on OWSLA / Boysnoize Records. The skilled artists provide a high level, electronic beat mix of four tracks on this new EP. Dog Blood is scheduled to perform a string of shows including BUKU Music + Art Project, Sunset Music Festival, Ultra Music Festival, and a performance at Electric Zoo.

The title track “Turn Off The Lights” is described as “the kind of banger that encompasses their shared love of, well, everything great in electronic music.” The first track, “Break Law” starts out with a slow tempo, set against a middle eastern chant in the background with an electronic beat set that is synthetically perfect as it weaves flawlessly in and out. The next track, “4 Mind” with Josh Pan and X&G starts out with lyrics, “You’re body, you’re mind” which is repeated over and over as the track thrashes to a climax then drops down into a beat that builds against a siren, fading into a strong mix of contradiction. You are taken into a trance of elements, as the mix fights against itself with tempo and pace.

The next track, “Kokoe” with Otira has an entirely different sound altogether as it blends in a drum beat which is steady and quick, against a tropical elemental sound. The pace blends with various sounds and a feverish build that takes shape mid-song as the beats frame a cyclic rhythm before fading out. The last track, “Turn off the Lights” has a vocal track set against the beats. The song builds tempo against vocals and thrashes for a bit along a jumpy and fast mix.

The new EP, Turn Off The Lights marks Skrillex and Boys Noize first full project since 2013’s Middle Finger Pt. 2 and brings the same high-energy experimentation that earned Dog Blood its cult following since their 2012 debut and acclaimed Coachella 2013 set. The duo confirmed a new EP in April and announced the new EP on social media.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
