Southern California punk group Plague Vendor releases a lyric video to their new track, “Prism.”
The song begins with Brandon Blaine singing “Mass…Precision…Heighten…Superstition, Hyp to the tism, You got me stuck in your Prism;” essentially describing a woman that he is delirious about before a few seconds of instrumental play.
“This was the first song where I could use a breakbeat on this album,” noted [drummer] Luke Perine. “I was inspired by Beck’s ‘Devil’s Haircut.’ There are drum breaks on the track but not solos. It was pure fun.”
The new single is a featured song on the group’s forthcoming album By Night, which is set to be released June 7th, via Epitaph Records. For eager fans, pre-order is available at https://plaguevendor.ffm.to/bynight.
Upcoming album By Night is a follow up to Plague Vendor’s 2016 debut album BLOODSWEAT and their highly-regarded debut EP Free to Eat.
According to press release, the 10-song album was “produced by John Congleton (St Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, Chelsea Wolfe) and recorded at legendary EastWest Studios (Brian Wilson, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop), capturing the feeling of ruin and regeneration, of charisma and catastrophe and of slashing at-the-night with nothing but pure electricity.”
The band was able to find their own way “between the powerful-but-too-polished sound of right now and the engaging-but-aging reinterpretations of classic punk/rock albums of the 60s and 70s.”
The group is set to partake on a tour beginning on June 6th at the House of Machines in Los Angeles, CA. It will continue through the summer and end on the weekend of Oct 11 – 13 in Manchester, TN, at the Great Stage Park.
