African Express releases their new track ‘Become The Tiger’, the second track taken from the group’s forthcoming studio album EGOLI, which will be available on July 12th.
The new single begins with 18-seconds of instrumental and continuous-colorful graphics displayed as a visual. Very electric, “Become The Tiger” provides an upbeat sound that is sure to get fans into party-mode.
The track features Cape Town-based electronic artist Sibot; musician and self-described ‘sample-hound’ Mr Jukes; plus Africa Express co-founder Damon Albarn.
Musician Sibot said: “Mr Jukes and I had this infectious groove going. People would pop their heads in, those heads would start bobbing and the room grew crowded. This beat was special. Damon made a turn, he pushed through the jammed door and straight for the mic. I hit record like a panic button.
Damon jumped on a bed and started making up words. He somehow arrived at ‘become the tiger’… We all started chanting it. I kicked everyone out so I could quickly capture the idea. Silly and spontaneous. The best kind!”
EGOLI is the result of a week of discovery, collaboration and a music-making trip to South Africa in January 2018 by African Express. The electronic album features “18 tracks capturing the fresh, joyous sounds of Afro-Futurism, straight out of Johannesburg.”
Outside of creating musical artwork, African Express recently performed at a “sold-out one-off gig in a circus tent in Leytonstone.”
Uncut described the show as “… proof that music is a universally understood language … a celebration designed to bring joy.”
