Morrissey’s Music Banned From World’s Oldest Record Store Due To Support Of For Britain Party

The World’s Oldest Record Store has apparently had enough of the Moz’s recent actions, and has decided to take a stand by refusing to stock Morrissey’s music releases on their store’s shelf. This announcement comes little over a week after the singer wore a pin supporting the far-right “For Britain,” political party on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Established before the turn of the 20th century in 1894, Spiller’s Records in Cardiff, Wales, is the oldest record store in existence. In addition to this prestigious title, the store hosts the heart of the music culture community in Cardiff; hosting numerous signings and in-store performances from a multitude of artists including Sleaford Mods and IDLES, in addition to its role as a ticket vendor for local performances.

“I’m saddened but ultimately not surprised that Spillers is unable to stock Morrissey’s releases any longer,” record store owner Ashli Todd told Wales Online. “I only wished I’d done it sooner.”

Morrissey’s display on Fallon caught the attention of numerous media outlets and was referenced by the founder of For Britain; anti-Islam activist Anne Marie Waters. “Thank you for giving us so much publicity,” Waters stated in a YouTube video, following Morrissey’s performance.

This isn’t the first time that Morrissey has come under fire over his controversial statements on Islam, back in 2016 he called Halal certifiers “ISIS Supporters,” before claiming that Hitler was left-wing. He has also publicly mocked London’s Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan over his accent.

“London is debased. The Mayor of London tells us about ‘Neighborhood policin’ — what is ‘policin’? He tells us London is an ‘amazin’ city,” Morrissey stated in an interview. “What is ‘amazin?’ This is the Mayor of London! And he cannot talk properly! I saw an interview where he was discussing mental health, and he repeatedly said ‘men’el’… he could not say the words ‘mental health.’ The Mayor of London! Civilisation is over!”

In addition to his several controversial comments on prominent Muslim figures, Halal Certifiers and Hitler, Morrissey also caught fire in 2017 for defending Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein. He later claimed that his comments regarding Spacey and Weinstein were taken out of context.
