Opeth Announces New Album In Cauda Venenum For 2019 Release

The progressive metal band Opeth has announced the title of their next upcoming album. The project will be titled In Cauda Venenum and is due to be released in fall of this year. The album will be the thirteenth studio album released by the band, following their 2016 album Sorceress. The album will be released by Moderbolaget/Nuclear Blast Entertainment, who released the group’s last album. In Cauda Venenum is also going to be released in two languages, both Swedish and English. This will allow the groups to spread their music to a worldwide audience while still basing their music in their Swedish history and culture.

One of the most unique heavy rock bands out there, Opeth has been making their one of a kind brand of rock music since the 1990s. Formed in Sweden in 1990, the group has always been different from other metal bands in their use of softer instrumentation and calmer tones. The band focuses on making much less overwhelming music than many of their contemporaries and uses fairly minimalistic instrumentals much of the time. The group makes acoustic tracks that blend with their heavier songs better than almost anybody. Hopefully this wide range of talents and styling will be as present on the group’s upcoming album as it has been in the past.

Since the release of Sorceress, the band has been touring around the world in support of the album. The band toured throughout most of 2016, beginning the tour before the album was even released and continuing to tour for some time afterwards. This strategy of starting the tour before releasing the upcoming album seems to be what Opeth is doing for In Cauda Venenum as well, as the group has announced a tour beginning next month in Europe. The tour will take Opeth through Europe in the late summer and fall, before ending with a set of shows in Australia this December. The group is said to be announcing additional performances at some point in the future. The full track list for the upcoming In Cauda Venenum album can be found below.
