PJ Harvey Drops Raw and Emotional New Demo “The Crowded Cell”

Polly Jean Harvey/PJ Harvey released new single entitled “The Crowded Cell”, which is the original music in Shane Meadow’s new four-part drama series “The Virtues,” Consequence of Sound reports. “The Virtues” stars Stephen Graham airing on the UK’s channel 4. Listen to the soundtrack below.

Her most recent two pieces “Descending” and “The Moth,”  soundtracks featured in stage play All About Eve, which were released on April 12. The British musician wrote an English folk tune “An Acre of Land” for British thriller Dark River in 2017. Harvey’s last studio LP The Hope Six Demolition Project dated back in 2016.

In Harvey’s word, the new lo-fi emotional track was actually a music demo:

“I am so happy to have provided the original music for this extraordinary and powerful new drama by a director I have admired and followed all my life. Shane has a unique directness and sensitivity to his work which I am drawn to and aspire to in my own work, so our collaboration was open and trusting. I sent Shane ideas as demos for him to try out as he edited and let him choose what he used and where to the greatest effect. In the end we both loved how the demos worked so left them as they were, adding to the raw beauty of the piece.”
